We’ve received tons of feedback from racers around the world telling us how well Spektrum’s DSM system works and how awesome it is to never have to worry about waiting for a frequency clip, any type of interference or someone else turning-on on your frequency. We have learned, however, that a small percentage of DSM users are having issues with some very specific applications.
The vast majority of these issues occurred when using the system indoors on carpet with 4-cell battery packs (as in 1/12-scale or 1/10-scale oval cars) and/or with certain electronic speed controllers that have low power BEC circuit.Under these conditions, some racers experi-enced trim changes and a delayed reaction.
These issues only affected the first batch of Airtronics M8 systems and can be corrected with a quick reprogramming fix. A service announcement explaining the fix and how affected Spektrum™ users can send their receivers in for reprogram-ming can be found on spektrumrc.com and the most popular online racing forums. All DSM sys-tems (Airtronics, JR, Futaba/Hitec and KO) currently in stock have the new programming.
And the new programming works wonderfully. How do we know? Team Losi® drivers Todd Hodge, Ray Derek, Gil Losi Jr. and 34 other racers ran DSM systems with the new programming at the recent ROAR On-Road Carpet Nationals in New Haven, Connecticut with flawless results.
In fact, Ray was having radio problems with his conventional FM system, switched to the Spektrum system and their radio interference problems disappeared. Todd went on to finish in the modified sedan class A-main, while Ray made the A-main in stock. Be sure to check back for more on the DSM system in coming issues. In the meantime, keep racing and have fun.
